Where to head this weekend–our picks

Celebrate the first weekend in May with some outdoor activities! Here are this week’s picks from the Oshkosh Independent.

ONE. Menominee Park’s Zoo officially opens for the summer season on Saturday May 6! Bring the whole family down to enjoy a day at the zoo. Zoo opens at 9 a.m. 520 Pratt Trail.

TWO. Are you a bird lover? Come down to Menominee Park for the 7th Annual Birdfest! Rain or shine bring your family and friends for a day filled with bird watching, nature walks, a birds of prey demonstration, and a plant sale! Event starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. Additionally, go to downtown Oshkosh for the Downtown Gallery Walk where the bird exhibit continues with live birds at participating local businesses and artwork at the Masonic Temple and Oshkosh Public Library! All ages welcome. 520 Pratt Trail.

THREE. Need to find your inner Zen after a long week? Come down to the Algoma Club for yoga and mimosas! Enjoy an hour-long yoga session with live music from singer/songwriter/guitarist Aaron Roecker and reward yourself with a complimentary mimosa. No yoga experience required. Event starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 12 p.m. on May 6. Bring your own mat. $15 preregistration is recommended. 103 Algoma Blvd.

FOUR. Kick off the first Saturday of May with Oshkosh’s Saturday Night Out! Come celebrate the first Saturday of every month in downtown Oshkosh and enjoy live music, food, and shopping from local businesses. Participating businesses will offer sales, art, various classes, special attractions and events, and lots more. Downtown Oshkosh is yours to explore! Event takes place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every first Saturday of every month. Downtown Oshkosh, 100-700 Blocks of N. Main St.

FIVE. The Backlot Comedy House hosts its weekly improv comedy night on Friday and Saturday! They know the improv game, but they don’t know the content. In this interactive improv night, the audience controls the comedy. You’ll only hear these jokes once so head on over for a night full of laughs! Event starts at 9 p.m. Event for ages 21 and older. 424 N Main St.
