The Ripon-based winery offers daily wine tasting along with weekly live music, wood-fired brick oven pizza and specialty events
Recognized as Lake Winnebago region’s premier winery, Vines & Rushes of Ripon has quietly established itself as the live music venue in the Ripon area.
The winery, located at 410 County Road E between Waukau and Ripon just west of Rush Lake, focuses on wines crafted from Wisconsin-grown grapes (many midwest wineries produce wine using California-grown grapes shipped across the country).
The names of their award-winning wines are often locally based, such as their red blend titled Mascoutin (from the wine description, the name Mascoutin originates from an Algonquian Indian tribe that spent time along the Fox River near Berlin, and is still used today in the name of a nature trail connecting Ripon and Berlin as well as Fond du Lac and Rosendale).
More than solely a winery, Vines & Rushes is the place for live music just west of Oshkosh, with an impressive 20 shows scheduled between February and June 2019 and certainly many more to come. Local standards Copper Box, Auralai and Christopher Gold are regulars, while the venue also hosts touring acts with a diversity of musical styles from jazz to folk and bluegrass.
On February 16, 2019, Vines & Rushes will be hosting two premier midwestern acts traveling to the area for Water City Racket Fest. Nickel&Rose from Milwaukee and Adelyn Rose from Minneapolis will be performing sets of original music between 2pm and 5pm for a free show.
Nickel&Rose is an American folk-music duo made up of upright bassist Johanna Rose and guitarist Carl Nichols. They formed in the summer of 2016 and spent their first winter and the following spring traveling Europe. Minneapolis band Adelyn Rose offers an accomplished chamber rock sound, though often in minimalist fashion, that builds around frontwoman Adelyn Strei’s keyboards and captivating vocals with creative bass lines and guitaring.
Quality wine and music deserves quality food, and Vines & Rushes delivers on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. They serve a Neapolitan style pizza baked at 750° with a bake time of around 90 seconds. Their dough and sauces are made in-house featuring locally-sourced ingredients.
About Vines & Rushes Winery: The winery is located on an established family farm in Ripon, Wisconsin, where five acres of grapes cold hardy enough to survive Wisconsin’s winters are grown. Owners Ryan and Megan Prellwitz both grew up in Ripon, and opened the winery along side Prellwitz Produce, a strawberry farm consisting of 15 acres that has been in operation for 20 years.
