Ah summer time, the birds are chirping, the breeze is gently blowing and the events just keep happening. Whether it is graduations, birthday parties, weddings, showers, family reunions, soccer tournaments, horse shows, concerts, company picnics, or just about any other gathering you can think of, some or all of them, can and will be taking place somewhere in the Winnebago County Parks System.
So what, where, when, how do we manage to be everywhere at once? Let’s face it one has to pick and choose which events are a priority and which are just a ‘maybe it’d be fun to go to…’. Luckily there are numerous places to find out information on public events taking place within the Parks System. (For those private affairs hopefully you’ll get a formal invitation from your family, friends or co-workers who are putting the event on.)
For events taking place within the Parks System the primary place for event information is on the Winnebago County website www.co.winnebago.wi.us. Once on the main page you can select from Parks, or Sunnyview Expo Center in the lower right box then click on event calendar. Whenever possible information is provided by clicking on the individual event in the calendar. Occasionally the promoter is remiss in providing updated information so when there is a listing for a contact person for the event feel free to contact them for up to date information. You will also find the Winnebagoland BMX and Kids Kart Club schedules on the Sunnyview Expo page along the left side.
If you’re interested in more than just the event basics, dates, times, place etc. then you can visit the web pages of some of our sponsors and partners who have lots of additional information. The Oshkosh Independent posts a weekly list of events happening in Oshkosh which includes events that aren’t primarily within the Winnebago County Parks System.
The Oshkosh Convention and Visitor’s Bureau https://visitoshkosh.com is the go to place for events happening within Winnebago County as well as the City of Oshkosh. Events listed range from fun runs, to major business conventions in and around the County. If you have an interest in even more information on specific events the OCVB would love a phone call with your questions. They can be reached at 920-303-9200.
Still can’t get enough event info? https://www.travelwisconsin.com/search?search=Oshkosh&filter=All+Content is the official Travel Wisconsin web site from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. This site also has links to individual groups that hold events around the County and State. Those looking for events closer to specific cities, villages and towns throughout the County can enter the specifics in the search engine on this site and find all kinds of things happening in their area.
While you’re out and about whether taking in an event or just relaxing within any of the Park Systems’ Facilities make sure to keep a watch for ‘Stan’. Stan is the star of the fictional TV show Drool Time and is also the co-star with Phil Higgenbottom on CUMULUS radio stations 103.9 WVBO, 1490am WOSH, 96.9 the Fox, WNAM 1280 and 99.5 NASH, where their exploits are broadcast as The Adventures of Stan and Phil – Picturing Themselves in Winnebago County Parks & Sunnyview Expo Center. Stan’s adventures may consist of a field trip lecture series on the Wisconsin Native American Tribes, a stroll through the Best Friends Dog Park looking for new ‘stars’ for Drool Time, or just about anywhere else within the Park System. When you see Stan, take his picture and send it to the Winnebago County Parks & Sunnyview Expo Center Facebook page at @WinnCoParksExpo. Photos received are eligible to win great prizes from Winnebago County Parks and CUMULUS Broadcasting stations.

Last but certainly not least, you may just want to get away from all the busyness this time of year. Winnebago County Parks have you covered there as well. Get back to Nature at the Waukau Nature Preserve https://www.co.winnebago.wi.us/parks/nature-preserves or the Lasley Point and Waukau Dam Nature Areas. There’s a great history of some of the Park properties in the June Winnebago County Parks Newsletter as well as on the web site. https://www.co.winnebago.wi.us/sites/default/files/uploaded-files/june_2018_2_3.pdf or https://www.co.winnebago.wi.us/parks/boat-landing-information. History is all around you in Winnebago County even at our boat landing sites.
While you’re out and about if you ‘spy’ any unique visitors (including Stan) please send us a photo. We love to see all the critters that call our Parks properties home.
So whether you’re looking for fun and excitement or nature and relaxation we hope you’ll Picture Yourself in Winnebago County Parks and Sunnyview Expo Center during the good ole’ summer time!
