One of the most recognizable sports personalities in the world takes center stage in Oshkosh, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar appears live at the Menominee Nation Arena in Downtown Oshkosh on September 8, 2018. BECOMING KAREEM will be presented for one performance only, as part of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s nationwide tour. BECOMING KAREEM is presented by the Menominee Nation Arena and The Grand Oshkosh.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s turbulent journey from being the good little boy attending Catholic school to becoming a world-class athlete, world-shaking activist, and world-wide best-selling author was guided by a series of well-meaning mentors. In this BECOMING KAREEM, Kareem showcases the top 7 mentors and the most important lessons he learned from each. In some cases, the lessons learned were not the ones intended by the mentor, but were a reaction to what Kareem saw as a flaw in their teaching.

The multi-media presentation will feature photographs, film clips, and music that both set up the time period and, in an entertaining way, demonstrate the lessons involved. Media highlights will include photos of Kareem with Martin Luther King, Jr., film clips of Kareem slam-dunking and sky-hooking in his basketball career, photos of Kareem attending the Cleveland Summit, film clips of martial arts fighting between Kareem and Bruce Lee in Game of Death, and much more.

BECOMING KAREEM is hosted by Roy Firestone. Firestone is a seven-time Emmy Award-winning and seven-time cable ACE Award-winning host, interviewer, narrator, writer, and producer.  As the ground-breaking, original host of ESPN’s legendary Up Close, Up Close Classic and Up Close Primetime, Firestone has interviewed more than 5,000 athletes, musicians, actors and political figures, as well as scores of writers and filmmakers.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s appearance at the Menominee Nation Arena will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018, 7:30 PM. Tickets will go on sale in late April. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact The Grand Oshkosh at (920) 424-2355 for details.
