The Snowbirds will be adding an alternative country-meets-southern rock sound to the lineup on Saturday, February 24, 2018 as the final act for the inaugural 2-day Water City Racket Fest. The Green Bay band boasts crisp song writing highlighted by the harmonies of Jeff and Jason Berkin, with accompaniment by the ringing pedal steel guitar of Matt Keon and the occasional gritty guitar work by Justin Bricco (Blueheels).
The Snowbirds’ set at Racket Fest is a rare opportunity to see the band live, having last played in the Fox Valley at Mile of Music 2017. Lead singer and guitarist Jason Berkin tours with Bob Dylan, while guitarist Justin Bricco has been touring with Lucinda Williams and will be hitting the road with Portland-based The Decemberists throughout 2018.
The Snowbirds have been hailed as “a highly melodic and heartfelt slice of pop-flavored Americana” and described as creating “a fantastic and warm sound that feels familiar without being redundant.” The band has released a self-titled album described as “a solid platter of country tinged indie rock with mellow undertones and a smashing pop sensibility.”
Water City Racket Fest will take place in downtown Oshkosh at 103 Algoma Blvd. on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, 2018. The event will feature all original music from Wisconsin bands. Tickets for the full event are just $6.00. More information is available at www.oshkoshindependent.com/racket.
Water City Racket Fest is being promoted by The Oshkosh Independent. The Fifth Ward Brewing Company is the Festival Sponsor, and will have their craft beers available throughout the event.
Music for the evening begins with Auralai playing in Manila Resto at 6pm, with the rock n roll staring upstairs in the Algoma Club at 7:30pm. Guests do not need a ticket to enter Manila Resto for Auralai. Tickets are required for entry to the Algoma Club, with the $6.00 ticket cost granting you access to music on both Friday and Saturday evening. Racket Fest ticket holders will also receive $1 off food purchases at Manila Resto for the weekend.
The Snowbirds are sponsored by the Oshkosh Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. OCVB is a private, not-for-profit organization, funded solely through room tax dollars from Oshkosh hotels. Its mission is to promote Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Event City and Winnebago County as a premier destination for corporate, sports and leisure groups and individual visitors.
The music of the Snowbirds will be played on Racket Fest Radio throughout February 2018. Tune into Oshkosh’s fabulous 101.9fm radio — local community-based radio covering important local stuff, from council meetings to local rock n roll. The show is hosted by Oshkosh radio legend Anthony Montalvo (another UW grad), and features nearly 25 minutes of straight music paired with a small dose of band info.
