Democratic colleagues in the state assembly have elected Oshkosh representative Gordon Hintz as the minority leader. The Democrats have just 35 seats in the 99-member governing body.
Hintz ran for the post without opposition after Representative Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, announced he was stepping down this past month.
Hintz was first elected to represent the 54th Assembly District in 2006. He is expected to begin the leadership position October 1, 2017.
The minority leader is generally responsible for leading the minority position and negotiating the leaders of the majority party.
