A new community event will put teams through a series of fun and competitive challenges as they race through Oshkosh on a quest to raise money for programs that benefit children. Amazing Oshkosh, A Kiwanis Quest, will be held Saturday, May 6. The event is presented by Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis and sponsored by Oshkosh Corporation and Thrivent Financial.

Patterned after the hit CBS show, The Amazing Race, Amazing Oshkosh will send 50 teams of four on a quest to complete challenges at 20 stops throughout the city. Teams follow clues to reach checkpoints, where they complete predetermined physical or mental tasks before moving on to the next location.

“At one checkpoint you might have to finish a puzzle, and then at the next you have to complete an obstacle course or learn a choreographed dance routine,” says Jon Rucinsky, Kiwanian and event organizer. “Some of the tasks are downright thrilling, while others are just plain fun.”

Teams will begin their quest at 8 a.m., leaving from Lake-Aire Center and ending the day with a 2:30 p.m. awards celebration at Fox River Brewing Co.  Teams can get a head start of up to 15 minutes by fundraising in the weeks before the race. Teams finishing with the best times win prizes including $1,000 for 1st Place; $500 for 2nd Place and $250 for 3rd Place. One team will also win a $250 Spirit Award.

Registration for teams is open at www.AmazingOshkosh.org. Participants may register as a team or individually to be placed on a team. Registration will be capped at 50 teams, so participants are encouraged to sign up early.

Since its inception, Amazing Oshkosh has received the support of numerous local businesses. The first-time event got a significant boost when Thrivent Financial and Oshkosh Corporation signed on as major sponsors.

“At Oshkosh Corporation, we’re very passionate about youth development and are proud to work with Mid- Morning Kiwanis on this exciting event,” said Jodie Larsen, Vice President of Community Engagement. “This event is further highlighted as we celebrate our 100 Year Anniversary, and 100 years of making a difference in the community.”

All proceeds from Amazing Oshkosh will be used to fund programs, activities and initiatives that benefit children in Oshkosh. Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis is a local affiliate of Kiwanis International and serves the children of Oshkosh through fundraising, advocacy and volunteer service.
