This year National Public Health Week (NPHW) is taking place April 1-7th. Mark your calendars, and make plans to join us online, at your place, on the streets, or at our office. We are proud of our work and want to let the community learn more to build future opportunities for health.
Why we celebrate #NPHW2019
“Everyone deserves to live a long and healthy life in a safe environment. To make that possible, we need to address the causes of poor health and disease risk among individuals and within our communities. Where we live, learn, work, worship and play affects each of us and can determine our health and life expectancy. In the workplace, let’s partner across public and private sectors to make sure decisions are made with the public’s health in mind. Within our communities, let’s start new conversations with our neighbors and become advocates for positive change. Working together, we can build healthier communities and eventually, the healthiest nation. But we need your help to get there.” (NPHW, 2019)
How we celebrate #NPHW2019
During each day of National Public Health Week, we focus on a particular public health topic. Letting you know the national significance, as well as how we’re working on that issue here in Winnebago County. Then, we identify ways each of us can make a difference on that topic. These areas are critical to our future success in creating the healthiest nation, and everyone can do their part to help.
We get the question “what is public health?” a lot, and it can be difficult to explain/describe such vast work. One of the best ways to learn is to see it firsthand. Although we are open to the public on a regular basis, during our Open House we will have some NPHW hosts to give you a tour through the health department, introduce staff and learn about the direct services and strategic planning of public health in Winnebago County.
#NPHW2019 Staff Tours
We want to get out and about into the community during NPHW as well. Do you want to collaborate with WCHD staff? Do you provide a health service we should know and promote? Contact us to invite our staff to visit you and learn more about the ways we can collaborate.
Follow us on Facebook and Twitter @WinnebagoHealth to catch some great photos of the week and learn about the work we do around this year’s NPHW daily themes.
