Mile of Style success boosts local homeless provider

The first annual Mile of Style benefit show will help the Day by Day Warming Shelter go a long way in providing services to Oshkosh’s homeless populations.  Mile Of Style was a roaring success with nearly 500 people in attendance at the Oshkosh Convention Center in downtown Oshkosh this past Thursday.

Mile of Style celebrated the creative fashions of twelve participating stores on display through local models ranging in age from four years to 104 years! Attendees enjoyed excellent cuisine while participating in an entertaining raffle that included a weekend trip for two to Chicago. The generosity of local community was impressive, with 80 raffle prizes awarded.

According to Day by Day Warming Shelter Community Engagement Coordinator McKenzie Valenta, “The tremendous support from the community will enable the shelter to purchase new mattresses for our guests, as well as a new industrial clothes washer and dryer. We will also be able to expand our self-sufficiency programming, which is one of our core services.”

Day by Day Warming Shelter Executive Director Lorraine Yarbrough believes the success of this event and the overwhelming support from the community will help shape the future of the nonprofit.  “We are working as an organization to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the Oshkosh community while providing the most comprehensive supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness here,” Yarbrough said. “The support of the community demonstrated at this event and from our many generous donors will help enable us to pursue a permanent facility, which in turn will allow us to strengthen our service in the community.”
