There will be double the deals this year as the Oshkosh Public Library partners with local businesses to offer special discounts to anyone who shows their library card during National Library Week, April 8-14. There are twice as many businesses participating as in 2017 and a wider variety, offering greater appeal and increased value for the community.
The weeklong campaign, Libraries Build Strong Communities, encourages residents to support the public library and the Oshkosh business community by using a library card to shop local. Customers who show their library card when making a purchase during National Library Week get a discount or other special deal and qualify to enter prize drawings at the Oshkosh Public Library.
Strong merchant & sponsor support
More than 80 businesses are participating, with most offering discounts and others donating prizes. Sponsors for Libraries Build Strong Communities are 920 Tattoo Co., Aurora Children’s Health, Bare Bones Brewery, Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel, Carpet Gallery & Flooring, Mark & Susie’s Piggly Wiggly and Verve, A Credit Union.
“This campaign is a way to add some extra value to the library card and recognize the important role that public libraries can play in building a strong community,” explains Jeff Gilderson-Duwe, Library Director. “To double the number of participating merchants in our second year is incredible and we’re thrilled to see them so willing to work with us to build and strengthen connections between library users and the business community.”
Here’s how it works
Participating is easy: Show your library card (from any library) at a participating business and get a deal – anything from 50 percent off an ice cream cone to a buy-one-get-one oil change. For each qualifying purchase, get an entry form to bring to the library and enter prize drawings. Don’t have a library card? Stop in anytime during regular library hours and sign up. The card is free and can be used at any of the 30 libraries in the Winnefox Library System.
Prizes include: An iPad; Kindle Fire HD10 tablet; a case of craft beer from Bare Bones Brewery; a custom-designed bookworm tattoo; a one-night stay at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel; two $50 gift cards from Mark & Susie’s Piggly Wiggly; and a Badgers, Brewers or Packers area rug. Deadline to return prize slips to the library is Tues., April 17.
