The holiday season is bringing a wide variety of special events to the EAA Aviation Museum in November and December, with highlights for all ages:
Thursday, November 7, 6 p.m. — EAA Halls of Fame induction dinner
Those who contributed greatly to sport aviation are honored during this annual banquet in the museum’s Founders’ Wing. Honorees include those from the homebuilt, vintage, warbird, aerobatic, and ultralight communities, as well as an Oshkosh-area EAA volunteer for the Henry Kimberly Spirit of Leadership Award. More information and tickets are available at EAA.org/museum.
November 9-11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. — Veterans Day weekend
All veterans and current military personnel are admitted free to the museum on this day. Among the highlights this year is the “D-Day Plus 75” exhibit in the Eagle Hangar, a unique short-term exhibit that features actual artifacts and memorabilia from the Allies invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
Thursday, November 21, 7 p.m. – Flying the SR-71 Blackbird
Join us in the Founders’ Wing to hear from Col. Richard Graham, who flew the world’s fastest aircraft on scheduled and secret missions for the U.S. Air Force. Free for all EAA members, and $5 for non-members.
Thursday, December 5, 6:30 p.m. — Movie: “Tora! Tora! Tora!”
This 1970 docudrama about the December 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor features an international cast, including Jason Robards, James Whitmore, and Martin Balsam. Introducing the movie is Taylor Stevenson, who flies warbird aircraft as part of the Commemorative Air Force’s “Tora! Tora! Tora!” Wing. Free admission for EAA members, $5 for nonmembers.
Saturday, December 7, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. — Christmas in the Air open house
For more than 30 years, Christmas in the Air has brought the holiday spirit to the EAA museum. Featuring local musicians and school choruses as well as the arrival of Santa Claus via helicopter, this free open house has welcomed families from throughout the region. Beginning on October 28, tickets can be purchased for the popular “Breakfast with Santa” at 8:30 a.m. prior to the regular open house.
Friday, December 13, 6 p.m. — Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet
This event commemorates the 116th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first successful powered flight. Featured speakers this year are Steve Hinton and Steven Hinton, the father-son team who have won a combined nine National Championship Air Race unlimited titles. Limited tickets remain at EAA.org/WrightBrothers.
The EAA Aviation Museum will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
