The Ground Round restaurant is located in the Best Western Premiere Waterfront Hotel and offers a great spot to enjoy the warmer months coming up in Oshkosh. The location had great potential for many years and once renovations were completed about two years ago the spot is finally being put to great use.
I decided to sit at the bar inside when I went, it was not quite warm enough to enjoy the outside area yet. The bartender started making the drink with Gordon’s Vodka and I was very excited to see her reach next for a bloody mary mix that was not a pre-made brand. Talking with the bartender she told me the following ingredients are in their own mix: tomato juice, pickle juice, celery salt, A.1. steak sauce, wing sauce, worcestershire sauce and monterey jack steak seasoning.
This combination was very delicious and had a smooth, refreshing taste but was lacking one thing. It did not contain anything to add a little kick. The mix should have horseradish or tabasco sauce to add that bit of spice a bloody mary drink is known to have. I would recommend asking for some tabasco if you go there and prefer some spice to your bloody mary drink.
The bloody mary was served in a large snifter glass and had great presentation. It had celery salt on the rim and included portion of beef stick, cheese, olive, and pickle for garnishes. It also included a lemon and lime on the side the glass which is something I haven’t see yet and is one of my favorite things to add to the drink. The chaser options are fairly good as well because there are more options available on tap than just typical domestic beers.
Overall I really enjoyed this drink and the service was great. The only things missing were that kick for the drink and nice weather.
