Gearing up for a Celebration

This month we’re getting geared up at Winnebago County Parks to celebrate! Not only is May National Bike Month with all kinds of activities on the WIOUWASH and Mascoutin Recreational Trails, planning is also getting into gear for the Winnebago County Community Park’s 50th Birthday Celebration on August 19. We’re in the midst of party planning and could use your help. There’s opportunities for the community, as well as local businesses to help out with the celebration and have a good time.

We have a lot to celebrate. The park has come a long way since 1967 when it began as one shelter and a lot of grass and small trees. We have so many amenities that are used throughout the year, including a multi-sport court, rugby fields, a shared use path, cross country ski trails and of course shelter rentals for parties, picnics and all those important occasions from graduations to weddings.

It’s difficult to measure the number of people who use the park on a daily basis. On average the approximate number of passive users on any given day during the season can reach 1,000. Due to the large size of the park itself it’s easy to see how such a large number can be accommodated.

We know there have been many, many events that have taken place within the park over the years and we’re looking for your photos to add to our Official Park History. From family picnics, to beach photos, to sporting events we’d love to share your photos of days gone by within the Community Park.

You can send your photos to or mail a copy with your name and contact information (which will serve as your release to publish) to Winnebago County Parks 625 E. Cty. Rd. Y #500, Oshkosh WI 54901.

And here’s where your business can come in. We’re looking for ‘Official Birthday Sponsors’ who will advertise the event with posters, online mentions, bag stuffers, etc. and if desired a space at the event. Advertising is to start immediately and go throughout the summer to catch all park users. There is no charge for having a space at the event, in exchange we are asking for give-away items for goodie bags and prize packages for the 5K and costume contest winners.

There is an opportunity to be a main sponsor of the event by providing birthday cake and/or concession items for party goers. We’d like to make this a free event so that everyone can participate.

We are very excited to celebrate this milestone along with the community, and hope you are too!

Thank you for supporting the Winnebago County Community Park!
