Discovery Artist concert at the Grand Opera House Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 7:30pm.
The Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra will introduce four talented young musician winners that will each perform a solo with the Symphony at the historic Grand Opera House as part of the Discovery Artist concert. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 28th, 2017.
Last spring of 2016 over thirty young musicians competed for an opportunity to perform with the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra this January as part of OSO’s Discovery Artist Concerto competition. Four winners were chosen to perform with the Symphony for their 75th Anniversary season.
On the program is fourteen year old violinist Emily Hauer who will perform Saint-Saen’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. Seventeen year old cellist Daria Van De Loo will perform Lalo’s Cello Concerto in d minor. Liam Mayo, seventeen year old pianist, will perform Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto in g minor and Xi Lin, twenty year old pianist, will perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto in a minor. To start the concert, conductor Daniel Black and the symphony musicians will perform the overture to Mozart’s Magic Flute.
The Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra is committed to supporting youth in our community and in music. This Discovery Artist concert and competition demonstrates the professional level of our young musicians in Wisconsin and the positive outlook for classical music.
Conductor Daniel Black commented “It has been a great revelation to hold the Discovery Artist concerto competition the past two years. Revelatory because I’ve gotten a chance to see what a wealth of young musical talent there is in the Oshkosh area. There is nothing quite like the excitement and energy that a young musician brings to their first time with the great repertoire. I enjoy conducting these concerts very much because you get to be an artistic partner for this first exciting solo performance in a young musician’s life. We are very proud to present our four winners-who were chosen from a large and talented pool of applicants, and we think you’ll love the energy they bring to this incredible music.”
