The Day by Day Warming Shelter has hired Matt Johnson as the organization’s new Executive Director. Johnson previously served as Executive Director at Solutions Recovery, Inc, a local organization focused on helping individuals and families struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.
The shelter, located at 449 High Avenue in downtown Oshkosh, opened their doors for the winter season on October 15, marking the 8th season serving the community. The shelter’s main programming runs October 15 through April 15 during the coldest months. The shelter also provides regular day time support sessions throughout the spring and summer months.
“We are excited to have Matt as a member of our team at the Shelter, we hope that his experience in the recovery community can be a major asset when working with our guests this season and into the future,” said Chad Engstrom, Board Chair. “He has demonstrated success in the non-profit field in our community, and we hope he can carry that success towards these efforts, helping us expand, grow, and serve more individuals in the Oshkosh community.”
The Day By Day Warming Shelter provides temporary, overnight shelter for guests experiencing homelessness in our community, while providing support to help transition guests towards independence. According to the organization’s mission statement, they “Advocate for collaborative, locally-driven solutions to reduce homelessness.”
A quick and easy way to support the organization: Three of their current top needs are foot-warmers/toe-warmers, toilet bowl cleaner, and juice boxes.
